Known as the Valdese Weaving Company, the mill expanded immediately, with the addition of yarn manufacturing, yarn preparation, and dyeing equipment. Both yarns and woven upholstery fabrics were produced and sold to the area furniture and textile manufacturers. Harley F. Shuford purchased the company in 1941 and changed the name to Valdese Weavers, Inc. In 1974, the company built a modern facility on the outskirts of Valdese. As the demand for more fashion-oriented jacquard upholstery fabrics grew, the company dec Today, Valdese Weavers sells to the wholesale trade, as well as furniture manufacturers.
