Valdese Manufacturing Company was founded in 1913 to supply cotton knitting to Waldensian Hosiery Mills, the only industry in Valdese at that time. Today, the company sells packaged dyed and natural yarns to the apparel, weaving, hosiery, and sweater industries. The spinning and twisting plants produce 100% carded cotton yarns in singles and piles. The dye house produces cotton and various blends of man-made fibers in thousands of custom colors. Approximately one hundred new shades are matched weekly and nineteen package dyeing machines make it one of the world's most versatile dye houses.
