AUTOMOBILE - The highway system provides primary access for Valdese as well as other municipalities of the County. Valdese lies along Interstate 40, the primary east-west corridor. The major north-south corridor is Interstate 77, intersecting I-40, 40 minutes to the east. US-70 travels east to west through the center of town. Approximate road miles to major US cities are as follows:
AIRPORTS - The Town of Valdese is served by two airports. The Hickory Regional Airport - John W. Terrell Field, provides both passenger and freight service. Hickory Regional Airport also has space available and service facilities to maintain area corporate jet aircraft. The commuter airline provides daily and weekend flights to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, NC. The Morganton-Lenoir Airport, located in Burke County, is a general aviation airport with a four-thousand foot concrete runway. The airport is manned 24 hours per day and provides charter and rental services. Both airports are roughly a 15-20 minute drive from Valdese. Regionally, Charlotte's Douglas International Airport is within 75-80 minutes. Asheville Airport is within 65 minutes and provides access to all major North American cities.
RAILROADS - Valdese is served by the Norfolk and Southern Railway's Asheville District. The railroad runs parallel to US-70. Norfolk and Southern Railway offers daily freight trains. There is no passenger service provided by Norfolk and Southern in Burke County.
MOTOR FREIGHT - Valdese is served by most major trucking lines. The following represents a partial listing of trucking services for Valdese and Burke County:
