THE VALDESE MUSIC CLUB

The Valdese Music Club was organized in October of 1939 by twenty-two charter members. Though the club would garner much acclaim and many state and national awards, it's main purpose remained promoting civic, church and educational projects and programs. It wanted to "bring the spiritualizing force of music" to the citizens of Valdese and the entire area.

For many years, the Club sponsored an annual performance of the North Carolina Symphony in Valdese. The school children were invited to a special free daytime performance before the evening concert.

To celebrate National Music Week, the music clubs and church choirs would present a concert in one of the local churches.

The club still exists today and offers an annual college scholarship to graduating seniors of East Burke High School who plan to continue musical study in preparation for musical careers.
