The American Legion Post #234 facility on Church Street. The Valdese chapter of the American Legion (Post #234) was established in February of 1945 to join veterans "with victories past, visions of future present, and a firm desire to contribute to their community. Members include veterans from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf. They share a "brotherhood founded on freedom and consummated in combat."

Buoyed by early enthusiasm of Valdese to their efforts in community service, the organization constructed their Legion Hall in July of 1951.

Today, they sponsor a number of community service projects such as: an annual Easter Egg Hunt for area families, scholarships for nurses, assistance to veterans, restoration of the Meytre Mill at McGallliard Falls Park, an aggressive blood donor program, and more.

Each Flag Day, the Legion puts U.S. flags along Main Street and on Memorial Day, flags are put on the graves of over six hundred Valdese veterans.
