The Valdese Farmers's Market - (828) 879-2129 for details. The Burke County Farmers' Market, in association with the Downtown Revitalization Committee and the North Carolina Cooperative Extension has established a Valdese branch of its Farmers' Market.

The Market, located on Faet Street, across from Town Hall, is open on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until Noon and on Friday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. The Friday hours lead up to the Family Friday Night Concerts in the Town parking lot.

All the produce found at the Market is grown in Burke county by local farmers. About a dozen vendors set up tables behind their trucks to display their crops. Fresh fruits like apples, peaches, and pears, and vegetables such as beans, corn, and potatoes are popular offerings. Since the produce is grown locally, some fruits and vegetables that aren't native to the area--bananas, for instance--aren't available.

The 2007 Market opens on Friday, May 25th and typically runs through mid-October, just in time for you to get your Halloween pumpkin or at least some corn and vegetables for your cornucopia. If the growing season extends beyond this date, the Market will continue to open at its regular schedule until the season ends.
