Burke Mills was founded in 1948 by C. Frank Gaddy and Leon Guigou in a 1,200 square foot building west of Valdese. The original workforce consisted of eight people with a weekly goal of producing five hundred pounds of dyed yarn for the hosiery industry. The present facility consists of two plants with approximately 350,000 square feet. The mill now employees 300-350 associates and has a weekly production capacity of 350,000 to 400,000 pounds of dyed yarn. Burke's markets include: furniture upholstery, high-fashion apparel, automotive, narrow fabric, and specialty end-uses.
